Organic Farm

An organic farm at Lambourn in Berkshire installed a Puriflo effluent treatment system. 2,250 acres of chalk downs are farmed organically rearing 140 beef sucklers, 1,700 sheep, free range pigs and poultry.There is also a large conference facility at the farm.

The new specialist poultry processing unit is now equipped with a Puriflo effluent treatment system comprising flow balancing, chemical coagulation and flocculation, pH correction and sludge collection. The effluent from the DAF system is discharged to a reed bed and lagoon system, designed and installed by Watercourse Systems Ltd. The effluent then flows back into the aquatic environment entirely in keeping with the organic ethos of the farm. The treatment system was designed with a long-term view to the continued expansion of the processing side of the farm.

Unilever Bestfoods

The Unilever Bestfoods factory at Crumlin in South Wales installed a Puriflo effluent treatment system consisting of flow balancing, fat entrapment and removal, chemical coagulation and flocculation, pH control, dissolved air flotation(DAF), flow monitoring and sludge collection and removal.

The system allowed the company to divert effluent with a heavy fat content away from the main effluent flow to a collection system for removal off-site. The main effluent stream is then balanced and treated with coagulant and flocculent, the pH is corrected and the effluent separated, liquid from solid, in the DAF unit prior to passing through a flow monitoring and sampling system to public sewer. The sludge from the DAF unit is collected in a purpose designed sludge collection and de-watering vessel prior to removal from site.

The common problems associated with fats in pipelines have been eliminated, consent conditions are complied with and trade effluent charges are reduced.

The system is fully automated and operates using a plc controller. The whole system was designed by the Puriflo team, in full consultation with the site management, installed and commissioned on time, again by the Puriflo team and is producing the desired results on a consistent basis.
